WINTER STORM SCHOOL CLOSURES AND DELAYS

INFORMATION AS OF: TUESDAY, OCTOBER 27TH, AT 8:46AM (MOUNTAIN)

The first winter storm of this season continues to pack a punch and that is causing some delays and closures for Tuesday.  We’re expecting a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain over the next few days with freezing cold temperatures and wind chill values in single digits.  As of this post, you can expect the storm to start to move out by Thursday, with temperatures back in the low 60s by the this coming weekend.  Please give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination and drive carefully.  We will update this page in real time as we receive information on closures and delays.  Here is a look at school and local business closures, early dismissals, and delays due to the inclement weather.  THIS INFORMATION IS FOR TUESDAY, OCTOBER 27TH.

LOCAL SCHOOLS
​​Clovis Schools:  All classes are cancelled for Tuesday due to the winter storm.

Clovis Christian Schools: CCS will cancel in person learning on Tuesday and Wednesday due to the winter storm. Classes will continue online via Google Classroom for 2-12th grades. K and 1st have packets of assignments to complete.
Portales Schools:  There will be no in-person school on Tuesday, October 27th, or Wednesday the 28th at Portales Municipal Schools.  All schools will be closed due to the weather.  However, online classes will continue as usual.  Students who were scheduled to be at school in-person should log-in with their teachers at the regular time.  On Tuesday, grab and go meals will be served as usual at all schools except Brown Early Childhood Center.  Parents may pick up meals for Brown Early Childhood Center students at any of the other schools.  Meals for Wednesday will be included with the meals served Tuesday as all school cafeterias will be closed on Wednesday.
Texico Schools:  Texico Schools will be remote learning on Tuesday, with no in person instruction.
Melrose Schools:  Melrose schools will be remote learning for Tuesday and Wednesday.  There will be no in-person Tuesday or Wednesday. 7th -12th will continue in their remote learning and elementary will continue working on their posted assignments.
Ft. Sumner Schools:  There will be no in person learning and the school cafeteria will not be serving meals today. We will have online learning for all K-12 students.
Farwell Schools:  School has switched from a delay to cancelled for Tuesday, due to the winter storm.
Bovina Schools:  Classes from delayed to CANCELLED for Tuesday.
Friona Schools:  Friona Schools will have a delayed start on Tuesday.  Classes will begin at 10am.
Hereford Schools: Hereford ISD will begin classes 2 hours late on Tuesday October 27, 2020. Buses will run two hours late on pavement only.​
Muleshoe Schools:  Muleshoe ISD will be on a two hour delay for Tuesday, October 27, 2020. Buses will run two hours later than the usual route time.
San Jon Schools:  San Jon Schools will be having remote learning/all online classes on Tuesday, October 27th. Teachers will let students know if they are online or paper packets.

House Schools:  No cancellations or delays to report as of this post.
Elida Schools:  No cancellations or delays to report as of this post.
Floyd Schools:  Floyd Schools are cancelling in-person learning for Tuesday.  Remote learning at home will continue.
Dora Schools:  Dora Schools will have remote learning for all students on Tuesday and possibly Wednesday.  All after school practices are cancelled until further notice..

Grady Schools:  Grady Schools will continue with remote learning only for all grade levels on Tuesday.

Faith Triumphant Christian:  No cancellations or delays to report as of this post.

COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES
ENMU:  ENMU campus staff will be working remotely on Tuesday, October 27, 2020. All classes and services will be available online. The GSSC and the CDC will be closed Tuesday. For additional information, please call 575.562.1101.​
CCC: Due to inclement weather, CCC will operate at a 10AM start for anyone with a physical presence on campus.  All online and virtual online modalities will continue as scheduled.

CANNON AFB
Official word from Cannon Facebook page:  Mission Essential Personnel only for Tues, 27 Oct due to Inclement Weather.  Only mission essential personnel should report for duty today. All non-mission essential personnel should transition to telework to the maximum extent possible. For those civilian personnel whose duties are not compatible with telework, administrative (weather and safety) leave is authorized.

The Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) will close for appointments today, all patients will be contacted to reschedule. Ambulance services and the public health hotline will continue operations as mission essential activities.
Unit commanders will continue to determine which personnel are mission essential and non-mission essential for operations during inclement weather.

Additional updates may occur as we continue to track the development of this winter weather and additional advisories will follow.

GOVERNMENT AGENCIES AND COURTS

  • All Magistrate and District Courts in Curry County will be on a 2-Hour delay on Tuesday 10/27/2020.
  • All Magistrate and District Courts in Roosevelt County will be on a 2-Hour delay on Tuesday 10/27/2020.
  • ​The Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office will operate on a two hour delay on Tuesday.  911 services still available, without delay.

HEALTHCARE FACILITIES

  • Both the Clovis and Portales locations of the Public Health Department will be delayed on Tuesday for Covid testing.  As of this post, it is anticipated that they will open for testing in the afternoon, weather permitting.
  • ​Clovis Family Healthcare will open at 10am.

DAYCARES AND PRESCHOOLS

  • Clovis Nazarene will be closed on Tuesday.
  • Little Buckaroo’s Daycare will be closed on Tuesday.

SENIOR CENTERS
As of this post, no delays or cancellation reported for Wednesday, February 12th.

OTHER BUSINESSES AROUND TOWN

  • The Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico is canceling food distribution for Tuesday.
