WINTER STORM CONDITIONS IMPROVING

Winter storm conditions will gradually improve through the rest of this afternoon as temperatures warm and change precipitation over to a mix of rain and snow. Another round of heavier snow is expected along the TX state line this evening before conditions improve in all areas later tonight. Very heavy snow from earlier today with strong winds has created large snow drifts over parts of northeast NM. Check with the latest travel if venturing out.

Travel will still be difficult across parts of the area with black ice developing overnight. Snow and rain. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches, especially around Quay County through this evening. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph. Effecting Johnson and Bartlett Mesas Including Raton Pass, Far Northeast Highlands, Northeast Highlands, Union County, Harding County, Eastern San Miguel County, Guadalupe County, Quay County, Curry County, Roosevelt County and De Baca County until midnight MDT tonight.

Plan on slippery road conditions and areas of blowing snow. They could significantly reduce visibility. Be alert to large snow drifts while traveling over northeast NM.
