Update in homicide investigation

Media Release, Clovis Police Department

Clovis, NM  – On June 29, 2026, at approximately 11:06 p.m., Clovis Police Department Dispatch received an emergency telephone call regarding a vehicle that had crashed into a home at 14th and Hull Streets.  Clovis Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the scene.  On arrival, Officers located a white in color SUV and a 28-year-old male, identified as Abel Abeyta, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.  Abeyta was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center and was forwarded to a Lubbock, Texas hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.

 

Detectives of the Clovis Police Department are investigating this homicide.  In the course of the investigation, the scene of the shooting was identified as a residence in the 100 block of East Christopher Street, in Clovis, New Mexico.  The person involved in the shooting has been identified and interviewed.  The information developed during this investigation will be forwarded to the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office for determination of criminal charges. At this time, no arrests have been made.
