NEW MEXICO (KSMX) – Two Southeast New Mexico Counties have received a gigantic financial windfall due to the latest BLM land lease sale to benefit the oil and gas industry. Eddy and Lea Counties have received a total of 460-million dollars in the September sale. That total surpasses all of the 2017 land lease sales combined. The state coffers will also be boosted by another 480-million dollars, as the sale generated a gross proceed of more than 970 million dollars. 142 parcels of land were auctioned off. 31 more parcels were removed from the sale after protests by environmental groups concerns about potential damage to nearby Carlsbad Caverns National Park.
