TWO JUVENILES CHARGED WITH POSSESSION OF A FIREARM

The following is a press release from Clovis Police Department regarding two juveniles with a possession of a firearm. The release reads:

On Monday, December 5th, 2022 at around 1:00 p.m., Officers responded to the Clovis High School in reference to a student receiving a Snapchat video. The video showed two juvenile males who appeared to be walking along the side of the Clovis High School. In the video, one of the juveniles opens his jacket revealing what appears to be the handle of a shotgun that has the buttstock sawed off, and then reveals his waistband showing what appears to be the handle of a pistol. Both juveniles in the video were identified by law enforcement and school staff.

During the initial reporting of the Snapchat video, school staff and officers were unable to verify when the video was recorded or if the juveniles were in fact on school property. On Tuesday, December 6th, 2022, Clovis Schools provided law enforcement with a security video, time-stamped December 5th at 11:39 a.m. The security video captured the two males seen in the Snapchat video walking along the east side of the Clovis High School on school property, which correlates with the Snapchat video.

On Tuesday, December 6th, 2022, warrants were obtained for both juveniles for unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon on school premises. At this time, both juveniles have been located and are currently being housed in the Lea County Juvenile Detention Center.
