Tucumcari Power Outage due to 05/24/23 Storm

TUCUMCARI, NM,
From Wes Reeves, Senior Media Relations Representative for Excel Energy
“Tucumcari remains without power after last night’s storm heavily damaged the electric transmission line supplying the city. Additionally, Xcel Energy crews are at work restoring power to approximately 1,000 customers who experienced an outage during last night’s storms. Xcel Energy crews have confirmed 20 downed transmission structures on a 115-kilovolt transmission line that supplies the city of Tucumcari with power. The company has called in multiple in-house construction crews, including contract crews, to rebuild these structures and restore the line, an effort that could continue through the weekend. The backup generating resource for the city, the Quay County Generating Station, remains offline as power plant crews work through a controller issue. If power plant technicians are successful in bringing the Quay County facility online, Xcel Energy can begin the process of restoring electricity to Tucumcari in stages later today in advance of repairs on the transmission line. Xcel Energy’s community relations group has representation in Tucumcari and is working with state and local leadership to assess the situation for Tucumcari residents and to ensure continued operation of water and sanitation services. Xcel Energy has also brought in line crews from area towns to assist with the restoration in Clovis.”
