THE SELECTION PROCESS FOR THE FINAL RACINO LICENSE HAS BEEN CANCELED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
CLOVIS (KSMX)- All meetings that were scheduled for this week for the New Mexico Racing Commission have been canceled until further notice. This includes a working session and committee and regular monthly meetings. Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham removed the past panel of commissioners a couple of months ago, prolonging the efforts of the destination decision for the sixth and final racino license resulting in tabling this selection process indefinitely.
New Mexico Racino Commission Executive Director Izzy Trejo stated, “there is no timetable for the process to start up again. The new commissioners have been officially sworn in however, they want to address other issues first.”
Trejo said that more information on this specific topic is not available for release but that it is still up for discussion but essentially not a priority just yet.
Gayla Brumfield of the Vision 2020 organization commented, “I feel that the process is being prolonged because the new commission board want to do their own research and do right by New Mexico when they award this license”.
In her opinion ” the statute claims there is the rights to a 6th racino license and that Clovis is the logical site for this decision”. However, she understands that the new commission must come in with their research and hopefully once they are “back on their feet, we all can get back on track”.
