TEXICO SCHOOL BOND ISSUE ALREADY SEEING VOTING BALLOTS RETURNED

TEXICO (KSMX) – The Curry County Clerk reports that 151 advance voting ballots for the Texico Municipal School bond issue have already been returned. Clerk Annie Hogland says that 1,036 ballots were mailed out.

This is the first time that either Roosevelt or Curry County have conducted a mail ballot election. Ballots will be accepted through February 5th at 7pm.

Texico Municipal Schools are asking for 20million dollars to help with technology upgrades across the district. Superintendent Robert Brown has previously said that he would like to install security cameras at every school facility. A new nurse’s office would be built, along with playground upgrades and other various projects.

If the bond and levy questions pass, local property taxes would effectively remain the same because a previous bond issue is expiring. If both issues fail, local property taxes would go down by about 107 dollars per year.
