TEACHER OF THE MONTH AT CHS

CLOVIS (KSMX)- A new initiative that Clovis Municipal Schools along with Shawn Hamilton and the Hamilton Auto Group has started this year is giving the chance to shine a light on individuals who have impacted those around them through teaching.

Each month a teacher from CMS will be honored as the teacher of the month by students, teachers, and staff. Students and staff, along with the public can nominate a teacher each month to give credit where credit is due and also show their appreciation for these individuals.

Hamilton Auto Group has teamed up with CMS to give each “teacher of the month” a new vehicle for that specific month.

November has been the third month that a teacher has received this award and so far, officials say it has been a great idea that not only gives appreciation but shows how influential a teacher can be in their students’ lives.

Ruth Chavez was nominated and awarded the teacher of the month for the month of November.

Chavez serves as Clovis High School’s Head Volleyball Coach, PE Teacher, and Staff Culture Leader. Coach Chavez joined the Clovis High School staff 3 years ago, following a 29-year career at Portales High School, where she led the team to 5 State Championships. Coach Chavez has been married to her husband, John, for 25 years. They have been blessed with two sons, Nate, a graduate student at Oklahoma University, and Peyton who lives on in their hearts.

When asked what she loves most about Clovis High School, Coach Chavez replied, “The opportunity to work with kids and build a culture that brings positive change.”
