SUSPECT IDENTIFIED AND ARRESTED IN WEDNESDAY’S SHOOTING INCIDENT
On Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at about 3:06 a.m., Clovis Police Department Dispatch received a 911 call from Plains Regional Medical Center. Dispatch was informed that a male subject had been brought into the emergency room having suffered gunshot wounds. The male, Joe Suniga (48 years of age) subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
The Major Crimes Unit was activated to investigate this homicide. As the investigation progressed, investigators identified Aaron Garcia (37 years of age) and Victor Corral (33 years of age), as two persons of interest in the shooting. Wednesday afternoon, information was released that the identification of the prime suspect of the murder was Victor Corral. An arrest warrant was then generated for Corral for an open count of Murder.
At about 4:30 p.m., information was received that Victor Corral was at a residence in the 300 block of East 12th Street. Because of the violent nature of murder, Clovis Police Department SWAT was deployed to assist the Major Crimes Unit in locating Victor Corral. Once at the residence, SWAT began announcing for Victor Corral to surrender himself and exit the home. Within minutes he complied.
Victor Corral was arrested for the outstanding arrest warrant for an open count of Murder and will be detained at the Curry County Detention Center.
