SUNDAY NIGHT SHOOTING INCIDENT VICTIM IDENTIFIED
The Clovis Police department has sent out an updated press release regarding the shooting incident on Sunday evening. It states, shortly before 9:30 P.M. on January 1st, 2023; the Clovis Police Department, Dispatch Center received a call reporting 4–5 gunshots in the area of Wilmington and Northglen Streets in Clovis New Mexico.
While officers were responding to the area, dispatch received a second call from a male stating he had fired a gun in self-defense and that he was still near the scene. He was instructed, by dispatch, to wait for responding officers.
Officers arrived at the area of 2117 Northglen where they located a 28-year-old male, now identified as Oscar Trujillo, lying in the roadway next to a vehicle. Trujillo was found to have a gunshot wound to the head. Officers quickly secured the scene for Clovis Fire Department – EMS to begin preparing the male and transporting him to Plains Regional Medical Center, where he was stabilized and moved to a hospital in Lubbock, Texas.
Officers contacted the male, who reported shooting in self-defense. This male was taken into custody for questioning. The male later identified as Ian Michael Downs (age 30), was placed under arrest and transported to the Curry County Adult Detention Center where he has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
