Statewide Gas Price Average Back Above $2/Gallon for the First Time Since March

CLOVIS (KSMX) – The statewide gas price average in New Mexico is $2.01 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA New Mexico Weekend Gas Watch. That price is three cents more than on this day last week and 57 cents less per gallon than on this day last year.

The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.17, which is six cents more compared to this day last week and 50 cents less than the price per gallon at this same time last year.

New Mexico’s statewide gas price average is above $2 per gallon for the first time since March 27th. Demand levels for gasoline are likely to ebb and flow in the coming weeks as people continue to be cautious about travel. As a result, pump prices will likely continue to increase, but at a slower rate through the end of the month.

“Gas prices remain on an upward trend and for the first time since March the statewide average climbed above $2 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel,” said AAA New Mexico spokesperson Daniel Armbruster. “New Mexico drivers are still seeing sizeable savings at the pump, with a statewide gas price average that is 57 cents less per gallon compared to this same time last summer.”

This week New Mexico has the 13th lowest gas price average of any state in the nation.
