Spacecraft with New Mexico ties successfully lands on surface of the moon

Lunar spacecraft Odysseus successfully landed on the moon this afternoon, after a two hour delay and some minor complications.

This is the first time a private company has made a trip to the moon, as Intuitive Machines took equipment for NASA on the 23,000-mile trek.

The laser technology that made the lunar landing possible was tested by New Mexico engineers at Spaceport America, 45 miles north of Las Cruces.

Spaceport America is owned and operated by the state of New Mexico and is the world’s first purpose-build spaceport, built to accommodate both vertical and horizontal launch aerospace vehicles.
