SETTLEMENT REACHED IN RACINO LAWSUIT

NEW MEXICO (KSMX) – A plan to award the state’s sixth and final license for a casino and racetrack can move ahead. Wednesday a settlement was confirmed by the state attorney general’s office just ahead of a hearing. A vote has been delayed for months by one of the companies bidding for the project, Hidalgo Downs, as they claimed the state needed to do more research. A feasibility study showed a track and casino in Clovis and another one in Tucumcari would generate more revenue and subsequently more taxes than Hidalgo’s project in Lordsburg. According to the statement, the commission will take all steps that they deem fully appropriate to fully and fairly assess all candidates prior to awarding the license. The settlement comes just one day before the parties were expected in court. Now, officials will spend that time during the hearing to go over the settlement. More information regarding the selection process has also been requested by the Gov. which the commission turned over the details of the study.
