SECRETARY OF STATE REJECTS GUN CONTROL PETITION

SANTA FE (KOB)- A draft proposal sent to the state by Republicans in opposition to a controversial gun control law has been rejected by Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver. KOB-TV reports that in the letter addressed to Representative James Townsend, Toulouse Oliver stated that the draft petition did not satisfy “each mandated legal element.” The petition was filed shortly after lawmakers passed on Senate Bill 8 to the Gov. The bill requires background checks on nearly all gun sales in New Mexico. The bill was signed into law by the gov. shortly after the legislative session that ended this past Saturday.
