Second arrest warrant in Clovis homicide case

Clovis, NM – On June 20, 2026, at approximately 12:37 a.m., Clovis Police Department Dispatch received an emergency telephone call regarding a male subject who had been shot. Officers and Emergency Medical Services responded to the 1100 block of Main Street, locating a 22-year-old male in the roadway who had sustained a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center by ambulance, ultimately succumbing to his injuries. The deceased has been identified as Eleno Cristobal Vicente Gallegos of Clovis, New Mexico.
The Major Crimes Unit was activated to investigate this homicide. During the investigation, Tony Hamilton-Evans (26 years of age) was identified as the suspect, and an arrest warrant for Murder (1st Degree Felony) and Tampering with Evidence (3rd Degree Felony) has been generated for his arrest. Tony Hamilton-Evans was taken into custody without incident on June 23rd, 2026 at the Clovis Police Department.
MCU Investigators have conducted multiple interviews and reviewed video footage, developing information regarding Zyeir Williams’ (18 years of age) interaction with Eleno Gallegos. Moments prior to the homicide of Eleno Gallegos, Williams and Gallegos were involved in a fight, where a handgun brandished by Williams was used to strike Gallegos. The weapon broke apart during the fight. Based on this information a warrant for the arrest of Zyeir Williams on the charges of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon (3rd degree felony) has been generated.
