Ruidoso residents allowed to go home

After two tragic fires and flash flooding in the Ruidoso area, residents are now allowed to go home in certain parts of Ruidoso Downs and other various locations in the area. Many places, including the more northern part of Ruidoso, are still closed to residents and travelers.

The Salt Fire and South Fork Fire have had detrimental outcomes for the people of Ruidoso and the Mescalero Reservation. Many houses were burned down, and so were many businesses, such as the Swiss Chalet Inn. So far, there have been 3 confirmed deaths as a result of the fire.

Electricity is up in most places in Ruidoso as well as cell service, with internet service being more scarce. Due to overflooding the water supply, residents of the area are still under a boil advisory for water consumption.
