REVISED PETITION FILED FOR GUN LAWS
NEW MEXICO (KSXM) – The gun law debate is still hot despite the session no longer in progress as critics of the law are reviving their petition with New Mexico’s top election regulator that seeks a statewide referendum; the AP reports. Previously, the secretary of state’s office rejected a previous attempt, saying the law to expand the background checks to nearly all private gun sales had the safety of the public in mind, therefore making it exempt from petition referendums. House Republican leaders say however, that only the courts have the authority to make such a determination. The amended petition was submitted yesterday, and the agency has 10 days to respond.
