REPORT SHOWS SAFEST CITIES IN NM
NEW MEXICO ( KSMX) – The National Council on Home Safety and Security has released a study that show the safest cities in the country… and it shows some good and bad news for New Mexico. For example, New Mexico’s rate of violent crime is about 213 percent higher than the national average. Per capita, New Mexico has the third-highest occurrence of violent crimes. Here locally, the study showed that Clovis ranked as the 13th safest city in the state with 7.9 violent crimes per 1,000 people and 51.3 property crimes per 1,000, while Portales came in 9th from the top with 2.0 violent crimes per 1,000 people and 37.0 property crimes per 1,000 people. The state’s safest city, based on the study, was Los Alamos.
