On Tuesday, the Public Education Department rescinded its school closure of Portales High School. According to the district, there was an error in their reporting that prompted the change. However, according to their records, PHS does have 3 rapid responses as of Friday, May 7. The 14-day period for one of those responses will end today, Wednesday May 12th, and another will end on the 15th.

This means that by May 18th, the District will have only one rapid response on record. Since this is a short week with no school on Friday, PHS has decided to remain virtual for the remainder of this week and students may return to their classrooms on May 18th. In an effort to ensure that they might not have an exposure in a classroom, they are asking that Seniors remain home and take their semester tests virtually next week. The high school will make contact with these students to provide schedules for their semester tests. As of today, athletic and activity practices and events may resume.

In order to help ensure that they are able to make it through the rest of the year and all students may complete their academic and extracurricular activities with no more rapid responses, they ask parents to please not allow your child to come to school, a practice, or event if he or she is showing any signs or symptoms that could be associated with COVID-19. If your child is showing any of the signs or symptoms, please keep them home for at least two days after the signs and symptoms are gone.
