PORTALES SCHOOLS APPROVES BUS PURCHASE

PORTALES (KSEL) – The Portales School Board has approved spending just over 174-thousand dollars to purchase a new school bus. The board received two bids from bus manufacturers that were similar in price. However, one bus included an accident mitigation system, while the other bus comes equipped with seat belts. On Tuesday, Superintendent Johnnie Cain said that one of the older buses is now likely out of commission for good because of engine problems. The new bus is expected to be ready to go before the spring sports schedule. The board chose the bus with the accident mitigation system after board president Alan Garrett suggested it would be difficult to ensure that all children were wearing the seat belts at all times.
