PORTALES RANKS TOP 20TH SAFEST CITY IN NEW MEXICO
PORTALES (KSEL)- According to SafeWise.com, New Mexico’s crime rates are much higher than national rates for both violent and property crime. The state weighs in with 9.57 violent crimes per 1,000 people, which is more than double the national rate of 4.49. And property crime is right behind, with 52.84 incidents per 1,000 people, compared to 27.11 nationally.
SafeWise uses FBI Uniform Crime Report program as their main source as well as population thresholds for each state. Taking a closer look at the country’s top-rated state for burglary and robbery, SafeWise reported that 20 of New Mexico cities were below national crime average. Of those 20, Portales placed sixth with a violent crime rate of 2.01 and a property crime rate of 37.06. Clovis barley missed out on being top 20 safest cities by ranking in at 21. Clovis measures a 7.99 violent crime rate with a 51.36 property crime rate.
