Portales Public Library provides educational resources for teachers and students.

The Portales Public Library had another successful Summer Reading Program this year with 175 children registering for the reading incentive program and almost 1400 in attendance for daily programs.

With the school year back in session, the public library has many things to offer students and teachers in partnership with Portales classroom. Below are a just a few things they provide:

 

  1.  Teacher Packs

Email or call (575-356-3940) Children’s Librarian, Sarah Victor, and let her know what books you need for a particular subjects. Allow 24 hours and the books will be waiting at the Circulation Desk when you’re ready to pick them up.

Brainfuse HelpNow—Offers a comprehensive suite of online academic services to support many learning needs and styles.  Brainfuse offers free online tutoring every day, skills building, writing lab, and study and collaborative tools to name a few.  Your students and their parents will love this free service.

Online Card Catalog—Browse titles, renew, or reserve items.

Libby/NM Library to Go—Download ebooks and audiobooks using your patron i.d. from the back of your library card. (ex: P0012345)

El Portal—Online databases available 24/7 with access to thousands of magazines, journals, and newspaper articles.  Perfect for research requiring credible print resources.

 

  1.  Outreach

Schedule a class visit for your students to learn more about their public library.  The library can host a class tour or prepare something special for your classroom.  They are also available to arrange a visit to your classroom.

 

  1.  Project Planning

Librarian can assist teacher and students with special projects (ex: Egypt, biographies, science fair) by gathering resources for your students when they come in searching for materials.
