PORTALES MAN ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTING TO SOLICIT A CHILD ONLINE

PORTALES (KSEL)- A Portales man was arrested Tuesday for attempted to solicit a child online when he messaged an undercover chat profile posing as a 14-year-old.

According to the Curry County Sheriff’s Office, investigators arrested 21-year-old Robert Louis Vigil of Portales, and charged him with child solicitation by electronic communication device, a third-degree felony.

Officials say Vigil contacted an undercover chat profile, representing a 14-year-old child. The profile was managed by the Air Force – Office of Special Investigations. Vigil’s conversation profile became sexual in nature.

Vigil arranged to meet the child in public area of Chavez West housing at Cannon Air Force Base, where he works as a private contractor.

After parking and walking to the designation location, Vigil began running back to his vehicle when he saw an investigator approaching. Vigil was detained and arrested without further incident.

Vigil was booked into the Curry County Detention Center and is being held pending a detention hearing.
