Portales extends water emergency

Portales has extended their Stage 3 water emergency in response to continued hot weather and the demand for evaporative cooling. With the arrival of extremely high temperatures, all of the city’s wells are back in use, after a period of conservation efforts that included resting three of the city’s wells.

For residents of Portales, Stage 3 water rationing requires the following:

• No water, with the exception of trees, shrubs, and vegetable gardens with shut-off hose and/or hand-held container.
• No car washing at residences.
• No washing pavement or sidewalks.
• No filling residential spas, swimming pools, or decorative fountains.

According to city ordinances, failure to adhere to water rationing restrictions will result in water service disconnection.
