PLANS TO RE-MEDIATE GASOLINE PLUME DISCUSSED FOR CLOVIS
CLOVIS (KSMX)- The New Mexico Environment Department Petroleum Storage Tank Bureau and their contractor presented information about the gasoline contamination which has been identified in the area of Commerce and Prince.
What started as an initial investigation in the contamination which was believed sourced at Allsups (2011) is now believed to be from a different source that was found during a 2016 investigation. It is believed as of right now that the source of the contamination is from a much older gas tank. As water tables dropped over time, the contamination believed to be moving laterally from North to South is believed to be trapped in a zone above the water table.
EPCOR Water representatives, Tom Torres, confirms that consistent and regular water contamination tests have been done and have all come back clean.
The contractor explained the coordination of the drilling program this summer to investigate and re-mediate the gasoline plume. This is looking to begin after Memorial Day using sonic drilling technology to configure the down gradient of the plume and understand the extent of the contamination with wells and aquifer testing. The team is working very well with the City of Clovis to assure minimal traffic interruptions and minimal private property owner impacts. There will be future meetings after this initial investigation on how they will proceed to re-mediate the problem.
