OFFICIALS RELEASE THE IDENTITY OF THE VICTIMS AND SHOOTER INVOLVED IN SATURDAY SHOOTING

PORTALES (KSEL)- At approximately 2:41 a.m. on July 27, deputies from the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office and police officers from the Portales Police Department responded to a call of shots fired at 510 East 18thstreet in Roosevelt County.

When officers and deputies arrived on scene Derek Garcia, 24, of Portales, was found deceased from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Quintin Carmichael, 20, of Portales, was also found on scene and transported to Roosevelt General Hospital for a gunshot wound to the leg.

In addition to the first two victims found, active duty military, Nino Darienzo, was found on scene with multiple stab wounds.

Major crimes unit was activated and after numerous interviews and search warrants, the shooter was determined to be Devin Quidry, 23. Quidry is identified as a junior football player on the Lone Star Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

Quidry described to officers how he shot Garcia in self-defense after garcia approached him with a knife.

Guidry is said to be cooperating with investigators at this time and no one has been charged with the crime as of right now. The investigation remains active.

Officials are looking for anyone who witnessed the incident or might have information. They are advised to contact the sheriff’s office at at 356.4408 where investigators will be on hand.
