OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING RULING RELEASED

CLOVIS (KSMX)- A fatal police shooting last fall in Clovis was justified. That’s the ruling from an official panel of New Mexico district attorneys. Last October, Officer Brent Aguilar, attempted to stop the vehicle when at that time Arron Chavez took off on foot, leading officers on a foot pursuit. During the pursuit, Officer Aguilar saw another officer fall, yelling that Chavez had something in his hands. Officer Aguilar said as he was running toward Chavez with the intent to take him into custody, he saw Chavez’s right hand inside his right pocket. He then removed an object from his pocket, which Officer Aguilar perceived to be a knife. The case was referred to a panel of three district attorneys to avoid a conflict of interest. The ruling officially closes the criminal investigation.
