NEW RENEWABLE ENERGY EMPHASIS TO THE EET PROGRAM AT ENMU
PORTALES (KSEL)- The board of regents for Eastern New Mexico University unanimously approved of the proposal to add a renewable energy emphasis to the Electronics Engineering Technology within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. This would provide for both BS and BAAS degree options. Graduates from this program are in high demand, with notable employers such as Encore Energy, Lockheed Martin of Texas and Haliburton offering employment opportunities.
Officials reported that this new program would require $95,000-$96,000 in recurring funding and the addition of one faculty member. Costs would also include one-time purchasing the Alternative Energy Learning Systems, the Solar Photo-voltaic Troubleshooting Learning System, the Turbine Nacelle Troubleshooting Learning System and Wind Power Systems software, computer and monitor. The total cost of the program will total be $333,531.
Dr. Balch Lindsay, Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs, states that this is a great program and will allow us to build relationships with more students that started their college careers out at a community or junior college. The academic affairs department started looking into the development research last fall and students are able to start registering for classes in this specific empahsis for the 2019 – 2020 school year.
“New Mexico has always been a great area for these kinds of career paths and now we have not only a four year degree of a bachelors of science (BS) but for a bachelors of applied arts and sciences as well (BAAS)”.
