NEW MEXICO SEES JUMP IN COVID CASES FOR THURSDAY

Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham addressed New Mexicans today for a COVID-19 update. COVID cases for the state were 161 with three additional deaths related to COVID-19. Curry County reported 2 new cases, with Roosevelt County reporting five new cases.

Regionally, Chaves County saw a big jump with 31 new cases. Eddy reported 21 new cases, with Lea counting 13 new cases. Quay County reported one new case and De Baca counted their first case.

Public Education Secretary Ryan Stewart reminded the current requirements in place for elementary schools to return for in-person learning. This includes:

Counties need have fewer than eight new daily cases on average per 100,000 residents as well as a positivity rate under 5%.

The PED also will update cases daily on their website beginning next week.

Officials with the Early Childhood Education Department also announced that 75% of licensed childcare facilities across the state are open.

The co-payments for September and October were also waived as part of the childcare assistance program. Visit newmexicokids.org for information the program.
