NEW MEXICO RANKS NO. 3 ON THE LIST OF MOST DANGEROUS HIGHWAYS IN THE U.S.

New Mexico (KSMX)- Geotab looked into crash data from 2008 to 2017 from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and revealed the most dangerous highways in each state. Among those studies, New Mexico ranks No. 3 on the list when it comes to most crashes and most fatalities. The study also shows that New Mexico has an average of 34 crashes a year on I-40.

To determine the most dangerous highway in each US state, the research calculated a Fatal Crash Rate that is based on the annual number of road fatalities and fatal crashes according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, adjusted for the average daily traffic counts provided by the Federal Highway Administration.

Florida is ranked No. 1 on the list, while Alaska and Rhode Island rank near the bottom as safest.
