New Mexico launches free teaching career hub

Clovis, NM – A new statewide initiative will serve as a free career hub for anyone pursuing a career in education in hopes of increasing the number of educators across New Mexico.

According to the New Mexico Public Education Department, “aspiring teachers now have access to free career tools, personalized guidance from educators and up to $100 toward application costs available online at TEACHNewMexico.org.”

Just a few of the opportunities available through the newly launched pathway include:

  • Educators Rising, a statewide program for high school students interested in teaching.
  • NM Educator Fellows, offering paid, in-classroom roles for aspiring teachers completing coursework.
  • The TeachUp Scholarship, which covers full tuition, fees and books for future educators earning their degree through San Juan College and Western New Mexico University.
  • Residency and alternative licensure programs, which provide job-embedded training and mentoring, including the University of New Mexico’s District Partner Teacher Residency and CNM’s Indigenous Teacher Preparation Project.

Public Education Secretary Mariana D. Padilla said, “TEACHNewMexico.org is strengthening our existing pathways to becoming an educator. Research shows that highly qualified teachers are the number one factor in student success. Strong teachers not only increase academic achievement of their students, but they also hold high standards that motivate students to persist in school and feel connected and capable.”
