New Mexicans see increase in gas prices

Albuquerque, NM – The statewide gas price average in New Mexico is $2.64 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA New Mexico Weekend Gas Watch. That price is two cents more when compared to this day last week and 22 cents less per gallon when compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in New Mexico, drivers in Las Cruces are paying the most on average at $2.65 per gallon while drivers in Santa Fe are paying the least at $2.59 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.82, which is one cent less when compared to this day last week and 25 cents less when compared to this day last year.
Crude oil prices remain relatively unchanged from the end of 2025 and unaffected amid questions about Venezuela’s impact on the oil market. Currently, the global oil supply is strong, as OPEC+, the coalition of oil-ex-porting countries, says it’s not planning any production hikes in the first quarter of 2026 due to lower demand.
“While New Mexico drivers are seeing a slight uptick at the pump compared to last week, prices remain well below where they were a year ago,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA New Mexico. “Stable crude oil prices and strong global supply continue to help keep gas prices relatively affordable for motorists.”
