New Mayor of Clovis sworn into office
CLOVIS (KSMX)- Monday afternoon Clovis welcomed their new city officials to office in a ceremony that was streamed live on the City of Clovis Facebook page.
Clovis Mayor Michael Morris was sworn in as Clovis’ mayor at Clovis City Hall while practicing social distancing with only five in attendance. District Judge Matthew Chandler officiated over the Oath of Office, as Mayor Morris’ wife, Sarah held the Bible. Former Mayor David Lansford congratulated Mayor Morris and presented him with a gavel.
Following the swearing-in ceremony, Mayor Morris stated:
“I would like to thank the community for their support and confidence by electing me as Clovis’ mayor. It is a privilege to serve you, and I look forward to working together to address the needs of our community.
Right now, the City of Clovis is continuing to provide essential services, and address area needs related to the COVID-19 pandemic. City of Clovis employee’s emergency responders and public works employees particularly stand ready to address community needs, and I would like to thank them, and all City of Clovis employees for all their hard work. The City is adhering to federal and state directives and making necessary adjustments as needed. I am asking area residents to be good neighbors and do their part in protecting the community by continuing to practice social distancing, regular hand washing, and self-care through exercise and healthy eating.
These are new and challenging times. Clovis is a strong and resilient community, and we will face these challenges together. Our flag is our nation’s symbol of that resiliency, standing for courage, unity, freedom, hope and the American spirit, whether in times of adversity or celebration. As our nation continues to face this invisible threat over the coming days, and as a symbol of solidarity and support, not only for our neighbors and community, but our nation as a whole, I can think of no better way to show our solidarity and support but to fly the American flag. Throughout the month of April, I invite area residents to join me in flying our nation’s flag.”
