MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER TWO HOUR STANDOFF

CLOVIS (KSMX)- A man was taken into custody Saturday night (July 6) after more than two-hour standoff with Clovis police near Wallace and Manana streets.
Officials stated “that no one was injured, but multiple shots were reported fired during the incident. A Clovis police officer fired at a man inside the residence in response to the man pointing his weapon at the officer”.
The incident began at approximately 5:00 p.m. with a domestic disturbance and after 2-hour standoff negations were made and the area was cleared for residential persons. Officers tried to get the man to exit the room he was in, only when he did, he was holding a rifle. The man pointed the gun at police, and one officer fired his department issued weapon at him.
The man, 42-year-old Damon L. Smith of Clovis, was not struck or injured, according to New Mexico State Police. Officers pulled back for their safety and awaited the Clovis SWAT Team.
After being tased by SWAT, emergency personnel treated Smith on scene, before he was transported to the Curry County Detention Center, on charges of Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Aggravated Assault on a Household Member, and Resisting, Evading or Obstructing a Peace Officer.
The investigation is still ongoing.
