MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FIRST DEGREE CHILD ABUSE

CLOVIS (KSMX)- Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Andrea Reeb, announced yesterday Jackie Cubit, age 32, of Clovis, plead guilty to First Degree Child Abuse Causing Great Bodily Harm.  The case was originally scheduled for a two-day trial this week. In November of 2017, Cubit and his wife got into an argument that lead to Cubit throwing a glass jar candle at his wife and missed, hitting their infant daughter in the head. The infant suffered a subdural hematoma and had to be airlifted to Lubbock, TX for medical treatment.

The Honorable Matthew Chandler sentenced Cubit to 19 years in the Department of Corrections. The sentence included a one-year enhancement for a prior felony conviction. Claire Adams, Assistant District Attorney, prosecuted the case for the State. William D. Grieg, of Albuquerque, represented Cubit.
