MAN LEADS POLICE ON HIGH SPEED CHASE
CLOVIS (KSMX) – A man wanted in connection to a Portales homicide was taken into custody Sunday afternoon. Officers with the Clovis Police Department encountered a black Volkswagen, driven by 23-year-old Manuel Silva in the area of 13th and Lea Streets. Police say when they encountered Silva on a traffic stop, he fled from officers. He ultimately crashed the vehicle into a gas meter, continuing to flee on foot. Following a short pursuit on foot, officers captured Silva in the 1100 block of North Prince Street. At the same time of the pursuit, another officer who was responding, was involved in a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of 7th and Gidding Streets. The officer and the occupants of the other vehicle were transported to Plains Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Silva has been charged with Aggravated Fleeing a Law Enforcement Officer. He was taken into custody on his outstanding felony warrant. Following being taken to PRMC, Silva was booked into the Curry County Adult Detention Center.
