This week School resumes for our local area students. For Portales Municipal Schools; the first day for grades 3-12 begins August 12th, students going to K-2 will return the 22nd of Aug, and pre-K will begin august 23rd. Clovis Municipal Schools 1st-12th grades resume on Thursday, August 11th. Kindergarten and preschool students start school Monday, August 22, 2022. Both set of dates can be found on your respective school’s district home website.

To help further prepare students for the upcoming year, here is a list of events throughout the week for our local area.

Today, Monday August 8th local area businesses; Catcha Fade Barbershop, Mamacita’s and Johnson’s Lumber are sponsoring a back-to-school free haircut and backpack give away. For ages 5-14 beginning at 11:00 am – 5:00 pm Catcha fade barbershop located at 2113 W 7th St in Clovis will be accepting walk-in clients.

The annual 6th Grade Transition Camp is being held from 8 a.m. – 3:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 10 at Gattis, Marshall and Yucca Middle schools. To help our new sixth graders have an advantage and feel more comfortable during the transition to middle school, each year, Clovis Municipal Schools arranges for them to have a whole day to explore their new middle school campus, meet teachers, learn about bell schedules, changing classes and everything else they need to get the hang of their new routine before the first day of school!

To Register for the 2022-2023 6th Grade Transition Camp:

All students who attend will receive a breakfast and lunch and free giveaways at no charge. When you enroll your student online, you will be asked if your student will need transportation the day of the camp. For additional information, contact your child’s middle school.

On Friday and Saturday (Aug 12th and 13th) La Casa Family Health Center is hosting their annual Back-To-School health fair in Clovis and Portales. They will be offering; blood Pressure checks, shots for kids, dental screenings and more.
