LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: ROCKET DOCKET BILLS PASSED
SANTA FE (KSMX) – In the legislative update, a few bills were signed into law yesterday that would affect our local area. The bills are part of the “rocket docket” bills that were previously vetoed by Gov. Susana Martinez. SB 193, sponsored by Senator Pat Woods of Broadview, would beef up the New Mexico Beef Council and its work to promote beef and conduct research. Another bill signed into law by Gov. Michelle Lujan-Grisham was a support of the Regional Air Center Special Economic District in Roswell and a bill that corrects the name of a division to better represents what it does. The Alcohol and Gaming Division has now been changed to the Alcoholic Beverage Control Division. Under Senator Woods’ SB 193, more research and promotion money will stay in the state when the sale assessment increases from $1.00 to $2.00 a head, with an opt-out provision for producers.
