LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: LAWMAKERS EYE ROADS, STATE PARKS

SANTA FE (KSMX) – Lawmakers in both the House and Senate are working had to find funding to repair state highways. Both parties say it’s a priority and an urgent one with this session ending next week. Some options including raising car excise charges, registration fees and gas tax. Others say tap the state surplus from oil and gas. Additionally, New Mexico lawmakers want residents to head to the State Parks. A House bill is currently in committee that would give out free passes for Sunday visits. Supporters say it will give more people a chance to visit.
