LAWMAKERS PROPOSE TAX HIKE ON GASOLINE

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – A proposal is being discussed by Legislators that would, if passed, have drivers paying more at the gas pumps. KRQE reports the bill would increase the tax on gasoline from 17 cents a gallon to 27 cents a gallon beginning next year. A number of Democrats are backing the bill, saying the extra proceeds would help to make improvements to state highways. The proposal is expected to be heard in a committee sometime tomorrow.
