LABOR DAY SUPER BLITZ WILL CALL FOR MULTIPLE SOBRIETY CHECK POINTS STATEWIDE
SANTA FE (KSMX)- According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, there are 10, 265 alcohol- related, crash fatalities a year nationwide. That’s roughly 28 deaths every day and one death every 51 minutes.
In an ongoing effort to end drunk driving, the New Mexico Department of Transportation is partnering with law enforcement and MADD, to be even more vigilant over the coming weeks, particularly over the Labor Day weekend.
Drivers can expect to see multiple sobriety checkpoints and DWI saturation patrols during the Labor Day Super Blitz which began August 19 and runs through September 2.
The concentrated law enforcement effort will coincide with an important event this weekend. NMDOT, the Department of Public Safety, MADD, State Police and other law enforcement agencies across the state and nationwide, will join forces to announce Saturation Saturday, August 24 at 7:00 p.m.
“Our efforts to ENDWI are stronger together, that’s why Saturation Saturday is so powerful” said Transportation Cabinet Secretary Mike Sandoval.
