Homicide on 2101 W. Grand Ave. Clovis

Media Release from the Clovis P.D:
Clovis, NM – July 2, 2023 – On Sunday, July 2, 2023, at about 9:33 a.m. the Clovis Police Dispatch Center received a call of two males arguing and shots being fired at 2101 W. Grand Ave. St. apartment # 2. A second caller reported a male with a gunshot wound inside apartment # 2 at 2101 W. Grand Ave.
Officers responded to the scene and found 41-year-old Ruben Mireles with a gunshot wound to the upper body inside the apartment. Clovis Fire Department E.M.S. also responded and transported Ruben Mireles to Plains Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.
The 9th Judicial District Major Crimes Unit was activated and began investigating this death. During the investigation, a suspect was identified as Jesse Ruiz (age 31). Ruiz was located and transported to the Clovis Police Department where he admitted to being involved in an altercation with Ruben Mireles. Jesse admitted to shooting Ruben Mireles. Jesse Ruiz was arrested and transported to the Curry County Adult Detention Center where he was booked on the charge of murder in the second degree, tampering with evidence, and possession of a firearm or destructive device by a felon.
