HIGH WINDS AFFECTING EASTERN NEW MEXICO
EASTERN NM (KSMX) – High winds in the area caused Texico Schools to release from school early, with a number of reported power outages in Clovis as well. In between San Jon and Logan, a train derailed, causing the closure of a portion Highway 469. A high wind warning is in effect for Curry and Roosevelt Counties until 9:00 this evening. As a reminder, the high wind speeds, expected to continue throughout the evening of at least 40 mph, can cause broken tree limbs, downed trees, and light outdoor furniture to lift. Cross winds could also have severe consequences for commercial vehicles on North and South oriented roadways. Please use caution if you need to be outdoors, as wind gusts could be anywhere from 60 to 80 mph.
