Grab and Go Meals continue to be utilized during ongoing health pandemic

CLOVIS (KSMX)- After the announcement from the state closing schools across the state, Clovis Municipal Schools have continued to provide school-aged children free, Grab & Go breakfast and lunch for the remainder of the 2019 – 2020 academic year.

The Deputy Director of Child Nutrition of CMS, Debbie Westbrook, has reported that they are currently serving on average 3,800 meals total each day including breakfast and lunch.

“We really did not know what to expect when we started the grab and go meal process for our District. What we have discovered is that families are picking up grab and go meals at all of the school sites serving breakfast and lunch. The number of meals we serve each day is less than a regular school day, but we do have many families utilizing this service.”

In Portales, officials saw that 10,397 meals since beginning March 17 at Portales High School and Lindsey-Steiner Elementary had been serviced. Because of this James Elementary was added as a grab-and-go meal service point.

In Clovis and Portales, these meals are accessible Monday – Friday, excluding the upcoming Spring Holiday (April 10), at all distribution locations. To accommodate meals for the Spring Holiday, an extra breakfast and lunch will be provided to students on Thursday, April 9.
