Media Release, AAA New Mexico

After dropping to their lowest levels of 2025 earlier this week, New Mexico gas prices jumped up again in the past few days, according to the AAA New Mexico Weekend Gas Watch. The statewide gas price average in New Mexico is $2.74 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, which is three cents higher than last week and 11 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year.

Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in New Mexico, drivers in Farmington are paying the most on average at $2.85 per gallon, while drivers in Albuquerque are paying the least at $2.72 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.89, which is five cents lower than last week and 14 cents less than a year ago.

“The statewide average price dropped to $2.64 on Monday, which was its lowest level this year, but quickly rose again over the past few days,” said Doug Shupe, Corporate Communications Manager for AAA Texas/New Mexico. “However, year-end holiday travelers will still be paying less than last year at this time to fill up before their holiday getaways.”

Nearly 9 million residents in the Mountain region states that include New Mexico are expected to travel for the year-end holidays – the second-highest number of travelers ever for the region.
