FBI WARNS OF CHARITY SCAMS WITH COVID
The FBI is warning that scammers are trying to take advantage of New Mexicans during the COVID-19 pandemic. The FBI says that scammers are soliciting donations for individuals, groups and areas affected by COVID-19. You can protect yourself by doing your research before clicking on links, donating to a charity online or through social media. A charity scam occurs when a thief poses as a real charity or uses the name of a real charity to get money from you.
Officials warn to be careful about giving money to any charity calling for donations or a call about a pledge of donation that you do not remember making.
