FATE OF THE 100TH CURRY COUNTY FAIR TO BE DECIDED

Clovis (KSMX) – Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 100th anniversary of the Curry County Fair may have to wait another year. County Manager, Lance Pyle, is advising the Curry County Commission to cancel the fair but work with the fair board to organize some type of junior livestock sale event.
Although the third phase of reopening the state will take place in early July, that limits mass gatherings of 100 or less, which is no where near the numbers the Curry County Fair pulls in.
Pyle stated in a letter to commissioners that declining to operate the fair would cost the county about $24,000 but operating the fair at a 50% capacity will mean about a $100,000 loss.
The fair board will be meeting virtually at 9am Tuesday morning to discuss their options. The meeting with be broadcast at www.currycounty.org and on the county facebook page.
