EXPANDED BACKGROUND CHECKS SIGNED INTO LAW
SANTA FE (KSMX) – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed into law today the bill that will expand mandatory background checks on firearms sales; this includes transactions between private individuals. The bill was signed after weeks of debate over the constitutional rights of gun owners; the AP reports. The debate also brought pushback from nearly all New Mexico Sheriffs, noting the infringement on second amendment rights, and state they will not enforce the law, and are opposed to the other gun related bills still making their way through the session.
