EFFORTS TO FIGHT OPIOD CRISIS PASSES HOUSE

SANTA FE (KSMX) – In the Legislative update, the House of Representatives passed a bill that would make it mandatory to provide opioid overdose education and naloxone kits for treatment facilities, law enforcement agencies and corrections facilities. HB298 aims to prevent opioid-related deaths in New Mexico. Specifically, HB 298 would remove restrictions on availability to ensure that the kits are widely distributed. In 2017, 325 people in New Mexico died from an overdose involving an opioid. The bill now moves to the Senate for further consideration.
